House Spiders (no pictures of spiders)

Are you scared of spiders or do you love them?

I can understand some people not liking them, they have lots of eyes and hairy legs, they don’t look cute and cuddly, well I do not think so, do you?

(picture from google)

If you are, then I’m afraid it is that time of year for those spiders you see in the corner of your eye scurrying quickly across the carpet, and your family only realise when they hear you scream as you jump on the sofa!

  • Have you done that?
  •  I bet you have!

I used to when I was little but now, I will quickly catch it and put it outside. I do not pick it up in my hand, some people do but I wouldn’t like it running around in my hands, just the thought sends shivers down my spine. I always get a glass and put it very carefully over the spider and while holding it tight, I get a piece of card and slowly place the card under the glass, if you do it slowly the spider will walk onto the card, then I pick up the glass and cardboard together holding the card underneath and take it outside and release the spider in the garden.

(picture from google)

The spiders you see are normally male and they are in fact looking for a female, so that’s why you see them more this time of year, they very rarely come in from outside, they have most probably been in your house all the time, somewhere dark and quiet and likely making their webs all year long.

I know most people don’t like them, but they are a good thing to have in your house, spiders are predators and they eat flies, moths, gnats, mosquitoes and many more insects. (predator means, an animal that hunts, kills, and eats other animals)

(picture from google)

Some spiders catch their food in webs and others chase and capture.

So, the next time you see a spider, don’t kill it, remember he is just looking for a female and he does not mean you any harm, he is more scared of you, look how big you are compared to the spider on the floor.

World Rhino Day

World Rhino day is celebrated every year on the 22nd September.

There are five rhino species – black, white, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan.

(Picture from Google)

Some people think that the Rhinos horn have special medicine powers, and because they think that, poachers hunt the rhinos and take their horn away to sell for lots of money. (a poacher is a person that hunts and hurts animals).

The horns are made of keratin, that is the same as our fingernails, so will not help in medicine.

There are less than 6,000 (six thousand) critically endangered black rhinos remaining. (critically endangered means they are at high risk of extinction and that means ‘no more rhinos’)

This is super cute, check it out, it is David Attenborough video with baby Rhino

Some people still want to hurt them and it is up to us to stop them. Do you agree with me that the Rhino horn should only belong on the rhino, and poachers should not hurt them? WOW! you do agree with me! A big high-five from me too you as that makes you kindhearted and caring, which is amazing!

(Picture from Google)

You can become one of 50,000 (fifty thousand) wildlife advocates and be a voice to save these wonderful animals, (advocate means helping the rights of others, in this case, you are the voice for the rhinos and you are saying to the poachers “LEAVE THE RHINOS ALONE AND DON’T HURT THEM ANYMORE”)

So, on this special rhino day, maybe you could get together with your friends and family and read books about rhinos or draw pictures of them and colour them in crazy colours! You can also add your name to the African Wildlife Foundation pledge here and together we can stop this cruelty!

Whatever you decide to do today, I hope you have lots of fun.

Animal Orthocare.

This is Derrick Compana

(picture from google)

Derrick makes custom prosthetics and braces for all different types of animals and any species. Prosthetics means artificial body part and that can include a leg, an arm, a hand and a lot more, it is a replacement of the body part missing.

(All pictures from google)

Derrick saves these animals lives as some animals need to walk long distances, they need to walk up and down hills, they need to walk in the rain and mud and very hot dry weather and over rocks and stones and if they can not do that then they can not keep up with their family.

Once Derrick has replaced the animals lost limb, they can then walk, run and play and be so happy.

So, after the count of 3 let’s all say “well done and thank you derrick”

1…..2…..3

“WELL DONE AND THANK YOU DERRICK”

( Wow, that was loud)

Bees At Bus Stops.

Utrecht is a city in the Netherlands, the Netherlands is a country in northwestern Europe. It is known for a flat landscape of:

Canals

This city has covered the top of bus stops with sedum plants for bumblebees and honey bees.

(Can you see his pollen sac?)

Honey bee

The roofs are looked after by workers who drive around in electric vehicles. The bus stops have all been fitted with energy-efficient LED lights and bamboo benches, LED means Light Emit Diode, they have a brighter light, but less power, so it saves energy and they last longer than other light bulbs, so they are called ECO-friendly, ECO products are great for the planet.

So, do you think the bees are happy?

I think so! I think they are Buzz Buzz Buzzing!

Great job, the Netherlands!

Rocco The Bear.

Rocco was stolen as a cub (baby), he was kept in a tiny metal cage in the back garden.

(picture from google)

The cage had no cover,

When it rained, Rocco got wet

When it was hot, Rocco had no shade

When it was windy, Rocco had no protection.

Rocco spent many years caged, locked up and alone, he was very sad and scared, but a great charity called ‘Four Paws’ rescued him, they drove him 1,000 (one thousand) miles, which took 40 hours to his new home in Muritz in north Germany.

Rocco can now play and swim, he is so happy and he loves his new home.

Four Paws is a wonderful charity, they do an amazing job of rescuing helpless animals. They love them all, just like you and me!
